The slender jar, made of noble material according to customs, in this case, the most common Egyptian alabaster or travertine, has a globular body ending in a point at the bottom, with flaring neck, a wide mouth, and a horizontal, thick rim. A narrow depression provides a place for the substance, presumably ointment, in which it could be easily and safely mixed and stored. The material, shape, and size of the vessel suggest that it dates back to the Old Kingdom, more specifically to the Fifth or Sixth Dynasty. Such vessels have been found in Saqqara, Mostagedda, and Mahasna, as well as in Dendera.
