In 1828 János László Pyrker, the archbishop of Eger, invited the young Danhauser to stay with him, and Danhauser spent the next few years working for the archbishopric. It was during these years that the painter, who had initially been specialized in historical and religious themes, really discovered his idiosyncratic form of art, the humorous studio scenes. In this genre picture, painted in 1830, the viewer can peep into a slightly artificial intimate moment between the artist painting Joan of Arc and the model.
