The sculptor Giovanni Antonio Amadeo worked as the assistant to Francesco Solari (mentioned 1464—1471) in Milan and on the construction of the Certosa di Pavia where he took part in the sculptural decoration of the monastery from 1466. Amadeo’s first signed work was the portal leading from the monastery church to the small cloister (Chiostro Piccolo). In the lunette above the portal’s elaborate stringcourse that was inspired by classical antiquity, there is a relief depicting the Adoration of the Child, accompanied by Carthusian monks, Saint Bruno, and Saint John the Baptist. Commissioned by the museum in 1909, cast by Carlo Campi in Milan. It was erected in 1911, in the Renaissance Hall.
