Archestrate, the deceased, sits on a backless chair at the right side of the stele, which takes the form of a sanctuary (naiskos). She is decently draped in a mantle, but her chiton leaves her right shoulder bare, an expression of her beauty. Her pierced earlobes were once decorated with earrings. She is picking out a piece of jewellery from a pyxis held by the young woman who stands opposite her. There is a small girl between them, clutching a bird in her hand and cuddling up to the seated woman. Perhaps the relief shows Archestrate among her children. The epitaph engraved on the stele also notes that she was most beloved by her husband.
