The lekythos is a perfume bottle often placed on the tombs in honour of the dead. Grave stones were also carved in this shape. This lekythos was first decorated with the figure of three men. Two of them are hoplites; they wear short chitons and Corinthian helmets, and carry shields. They hold hands — they belong together. The third man, on horseback, is dressed in a similar way, but wears the characteristic hat of travellers. About a hundred years later the grave stone was complemented with a new relief, showing a seated and a standing, younger female figure, probably in the gesture of mourning.
