The statue formed part of a Delian monument, which was erected to commemorate a military victory in one of the central areas of the island, the so-called Agora of the Italians. The man, wounded on his thigh, has fallen on his right knee, but continues to fight, trying to protect himself. His Celtic helmet lies beside his right knee. The hole visible on his right thigh was once probably transfixed with an arrow, perhaps made of bronze. The head and the left shoulder are missing, because these were added to the original statue after the creation of the plaster cast. The half-open mouth and the upturned gaze express the pain and effort exerted by the warrior.
