The two relief slabs were found below the Athenian Acropolis, at one of the entrances to the Theatre of Dionysos. The two slabs were accompanied by a third one. Their surface is slightly hollow, they probably decorated the base of a candelabrum or a three-foot stand (tripod). One of the girls looks forward, the other faces us. They are elegantly adjusting their richly draped mantles, so that they can dance freely. The girls are probably the Horae, the personifications of the seasons. The reliefs were likely made at the end of the first century BC, but their style was inspired by Greek art of the fourth century BC.
