The four sides of this marble base, shaped as a truncated pyramid, are decorated with reliefs. The two wider panels probably represent Menelaus and Helene. One of them perhaps shows their wedding: the couple stand in embrace, holding the same wreath. On the other, a man holds his sword against the throat of a woman, who pleadingly extends her left hand. This may be the same couple, when they meet again after the fall of Troy. The rearing snakes on the narrower sides are perhaps the representations of the two Dioscuri, the brothers of Helene.
