Portrait of a youth with long, curly locks. It was formerly regarded as the image of the young Vergilius (70—19 BC), but there are no firm arguments to support the statue’s identification as the representation of the great Roman poet. According to another hypothesis the bust perhaps depicts one of the mythical characters related to the Eleusian cult of Demeter and Persephone, for example Eubuleus or Iacchos.
